BOOK
Panelist Eddie Schmidt

Eddie Schmidt is an Oscar- and Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker, as well as a showrunner and director of groundbreaking series and specials. Schmidt's work includes Netflix's Chelsea Does, starring Chelsea Handler, and Ugly Delicious, with chef David Chang, both of which have a streak of irreverence going back to Schmidt's days in sketch comedy. That sense of play is also on display in the infamous IFC documentary This Film Is Not Yet Rated, which Schmidt co-wrote and produced, a pair of documentaries he executive produced for director Neil Berkeley (the acclaimed Gilbert: A Gilbert Gottfried Story and Beauty is Embarrassing), and Schmidt's book,The Finger: A Comprehensive Guide to Flipping Off. Schmidt may be the only person nominated for an Academy Award who also wrote joke bubbles for the original Blind Date. Elsewhere, Schmidt directed a serious exploration of Jason Sudeikis' family roots for NBC's Who Do You Think You Are. Other non-funny projects include producing HBO's Twist of Faith and Valentine Road, directing and showrunning the rebooted In Search Of... starring Zachary Quinto, and directing and showrunning The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey for CBS. Schmidt's work has premiered at the Sundance Film Festival a total of six times, as well as South by Southwest and Tribeca. He is currently under an overall deal with Universal Alternative Television Studio. Once upon a time, he appeared on This American Life to tell Ira Glass the story of how his Aunt Mary cut his mother out of her will over a piece of cheese.
