HOW WE GOT STARTED:
In Sept of 2008, Founders Barbara Holliday & Dave Reinitz created Flappers Comedy Club & Restaurant LLC with the intention of building a lasting and supportive comedy community, enriching live shows with an expansive and delicious restaurant and bar menu, and attracting the biggest names in the stand-up comedy business. Since then, World-Class celebrity headliners, including Jay Leno, Jo Koy, Maria Bamford, Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, Gabriel Iglesias, Whitney Cummings, Dana Carvey, Jeff Garlin, Rob Schneider, Cedric The Entertainer, Iliza, Christina P, Tom Segura, Taylor Tomlinson, and many, many more have graced the 200-seat state-of-the-art Mainroom stage, as well as the intimate 60-seat Yoo Hoo room. This club is known for developing a comedy community that has provided opportunities for the next generation of comedy superstars, including Taylor Tomlinson, Jerrod Carmichael, Rami Youssef, and many more, to develop their craft and rise to the top of the comedy world both artistically and professionally.
WHERE WE ARE NOW:
In 2022 Barbara Holliday took over the club full time and became a 100% woman owned business enterprise. Flappers remains one of Los Angeles’ most accessible clubs for young comedians to gain experience and actively seeks to support and nurture the next generation of talent, holding weekly auditions and daily open mics for the comedy stars of tomorrow. Flappers presents The Uncle Clyde’s Comedy Contest, LA’s longest running comedy contest, every Wednesday, where the audience votes and there are prizes at the end of every round.
In partnership with Acomedy Academy DBA Flappers University (where learning is a joke!), Flappers offers classes in stand-up, writing for late night, the business of comedy, and more for all ages and skill levels. Corporate team building events, both at the club at any off-site location, are also available.
Flappers Comedy LLC also produces The Burbank Comedy Festival, an annual week-long event, sponsored by Downtown Burbank and Visit Burbank, wherein hundreds of comedians from all over the world gather to showcase in front of top industry executives, casting directors, agents, managers, and more. The eight-day festivities include shows in multiple venues, afterparties, classes, industry panels, and celebrity one-offs. Past celebrity guests have included Adam Carolla, Tom Segura, Christina P, Jeff Garlin, Jay Leno, Phil Rosenthal, Kevin Pollack, Carol Leifer, Jimmy Pardo, Jimmy Dore, and more!
Every Saturday at 4pm, Flappers presents Two Milk Minimum, a family-friendly comedy show featuring a rotating cast of comedy jugglers, magicians, acrobats, kid’s performers, and more!
Barbara Holliday | Owner/CEO | BIO
Barbara Holliday is the owner/operator of Flappers ComedyClub and Restaurant. Born in Long Island, New York to a computer programmer and artist, she believes her multi-talented capacity for performance, and business is a result of being raised in a thoroughly “left brain/right brain” family. Experience probably has much to do with her flair as well. After graduating from San Diego State University with her Teaching certification and a degree in Theater Arts (Hon.) English and Dance minor in 1989, she was headed for a high school teaching stint but ended up getting cast instead as a Kid’s Club Host for Fox on the highly-rated television program Fox Kids Club. The television show, which aired daily Mon-Fri 3-5pm allowed Holliday to hone her performance & leadership skills on some of the toughest guests around-young children and animals-while simultaneously writing and producing the daily show.
Since moving to Los Angeles in 1992, Holliday has performed in National Television commercials for SBC Global, been in films such as (Naked Gun 33⅓) and had stints on television shows (Friends, The Dating Game, World’s Funniest), on stage (Funny Girl, Hello Dolly, West Side Story) and as a stand-up and sketch comedian she created her own Sketch team called “The Instigators” whom performed regularly at (The Comedy Store,IGBY’s, The Improv and various other Showcases throughout Los Angeles). She has also worked as a Kids Party Clown, and balloon artist at local theme parks, as well as being the CO-Creator of Uncle Clyde’s Comedy Contest, and Survival of the Funniest and many other reality and comedy show pilots. In 2022, Holliday took over as sole owner of Flappers Comedy Club & Restaurant and it became a 100% woman owned enterprise. Holliday also teaches corporate teambuilding, stand-up comedy and branding classes.
VENUE DESCRIPTION
Flappers Comedy Club & Restaurant is located in lovely downtown Burbank in the heart of Los Angeles County CA. Flappers is not only a 100% woman owned company, but owner Barbara Holliday and her experienced staff are extremely passionate about making events a one of a kind experience. Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank is over 7000 total square feet of beautiful event space. Boasting a Full Service Restaurant and Bar with an art deco flair and 1920’s theme. It also features four State of the Art Performance and event Spaces. A Bar stage and Patio stage space that hosts 60-80 people where you can hang out and eat and drink before, during and after shows. The elegant and sophisticated Mainroom has a 200 seat Capacity and is perfect for Comedy Shows, Live music, Weddings, Holiday Parties, Birthday Parties, film screenings or festivals. “The YooHoo Room” which is extremely flexible in design and hosts 60 people is perfect for private birthdays, retirement parties, bar/batmitvahs and roasts. The menu is outstanding and features everything from Burgers and Pizza baked fresh in our very own wood-fired oven to Steak and Salmon. Each of the showrooms features an outdoor Marquee for that special signage custom to your event. Free parking is available at the Five story mall located directly across the street.
The elegant and sophisticated Mainroom has a 200 seat capacity with seats all facing the stage which has a full theater setup and all the AV you could desire. State of the Art MAc and Que lab to run videos and or movies for screenings. Microphone , Speakers and fully adjustable theater lighting are at your disposal. A state of the art sound system and no ads music playlists. features a screen and projector and 4 televisions around the room showing the same image. Also Have 4 Camera Setup in the room for videotaping.
The YooHoo Room is a truly intimate space that has a separate private entrance and marquee as well as its own Green room and very close to restrooms. A 60 seat audience capacity with seats all facing the stage and a full theater setup and all the AV you could desire. State of the Laptop to run videos and or movies for screenings. Microphone , Speakers and fully adjustable theater lighting are at your disposal. A state of the art sound system and no ads music playlists. features a screen and projector. Also has a Canon XA 35 in the room for videotaping your event.
The beautiful and spacious Bar and Patio area hosts 60-80 people as well where you can host your own event on our Bar Stage or present live music on our Outdoor stage, complete with Microphone and stage lighting. Or just hang out and eat and drink before, during and after events. Perfect for a meet up or cocktails before a big show or mainroom event.
